Stolen Images and the Big Picture (Please share)

First of all though, let me say that is is obviously NOT my customers who are doing this.  So THANK YOU to my customers who so far are enabling me to keep selling my art.  But I'm hoping that my fans and customers will see that these people sharing this way are endangering the whole crafting business.  Without artists creating new art -- that's going to take away a huge element in hobby you all enjoy.

I haven't had to complain about this for a few blissful months since most of those images came down after the hundreds of hours I had to spend (instead of drawing) reporting thefts to Pinterest.  But now there's a whole new batch cropping up over the past couple of weeks and I need to say this because my business is suffering.  I've had to spend less time working on stamp art, and more time working on freelance jobs for book companies, as some of my friends know.

Many of my images being passed around in the last couple weeks are poorly done and obviously taken from low rez "sample" images where someone has been erasing my watermarks.  Even worse though, someone has taken and traced my "Baby Fairy" images -- (the ones that have been helping me keep my head barely (and I mean BARELY)  above water financially -- and is passing those around on facebook.  Like this:

This of course is just the top of one Pinner's page.  She obviously knows enough about my stamps to label them with their correct names . . . so I'm pretty sure she knows they're not free to steal.  I saw another board with the same batch of my images -- in her own "Mo's" album of stolen images.

But it's not just my business suffering.   This is an early warning to the stamping world.  Right this minute, the people who are doing this are destroying the ability of digital AND rubber stamp artists and companies to create for the honest people in the crafting community.  Crafters are going to lose the artists they love because we can't survive if people who only care about "FREE STUFF" are making our images worthless by sharing.

Please spread the word far and wide, because this is just ridiculous. I can't think of another field besides art where people seem to feel that the companies/creators can exist on air.   We have bills to pay just like you all do.  I'm sure most of these Pinners wouldn't even think of shoplifting, or cheating a neighbor, so please let them know that we artists are suffering because of them.

Just a few things they should know:
  1. SURPRISE!!! Though Pinterest might not want you to know it, Pinterest is not a SHOPPING SITE!  In other words, you should not have a single image Pinned unless you have received permission from the copyright owner to pin it.  All these thousands of boards sharing images found on Google?  Copyright THEFT!  That's why Pinterest has to remove it when we report it.  (And sadly, most artists/photographers have no idea their work is there -- and/or don't know how to file a DMCA report when their images are shared this way.)

  2. SHARING stamp images is STEALING whether you email it, pin it, post it or hand it physically to someone.  Each person needs to receive their own "permission" to use either through purchase or by special permission from the copyright owner.  You give away one stamp, and that person gives it away to two, and those people give it away to a dozen more -- and so on, and so on, and so on . . .

  3. UPLOADING unwatermarked stamp images that you did not create yourself (or that the artist has not given permission to upload) for others to "have" is STEALING.  Period.

  4. TRACING an image as someone did with my baby fairies is a HUGE copyright violation, I can get $150,000 in damages for each image and I'm searching for the person who traced my work and uploaded them.  So anyone who knows who may have originally traced these Baby Fairies please let me know at

  5. SCANNING in rubber stamp images is ILLEGAL (The people uploading Magnolia "digis" are KILLING that company -- they have told me this.  We already lost Stampavie this year.) FREEBIES are not free for YOU to share, they are for the copyright owner to share.   You aren't allowed to scan in a book to make your own e-book, and you aren't allowed to scan in a rubber stamped image without permission to make a digi.  They are two separate products under the law.

Animal Friends

$1 Donation Digi through October 16th.  AMANDA.

I've always been amazed how very many caring animal FANATICS there are in the crafting world -- Cat, dog, bird, hedgehog, mouse ....

In memory of my Challenge Blog's talented, sweet Amanda Reed who passed away suddenly last month, I'm offering this sweet little kitty-lover named after her.  All proceeds from the sale of this stamp through the 16th will go to AnimalFriends -- a highly rated animal facility near Amanda's hometown.  If you'd prefer to donate directly, you can go to the ANIMALFRIENDS site and donate in tribute to Amanda Reed.

Please pass on the word to your crafty (or petloving) friends and let's see how much we can raise for this important cause which had been so close to Amanda's heart.  xoMo
